Rafailia Bampasidou

Sarah Allen

Choreographer and Dancer (CHRYSALIS)

Born on the far eastern coast of Russia, my training in gymnastics and competitive dance began

at an early age, true to tradition. At age 13, my family relocated to a town in the South of France where I joined a conservatory and stepped into exciting, unfamiliar realms of contemporary movement, theatre and performance art. While there, I took advantage of a variety of workshops hosted by mostly European artists at nearby cultural hubs. I moved to New York on my own, at age 17, though I have spent many summers in the city over the years and instantly fell in love with its haunting magnetism. For a while, I was overwhelmed by the wealth of academic resources offered through NYU and gradually found a family of creative individuals, from all backgrounds, who have greatly informed (and challenged) my perspective. On the side, I became involved in commercial work- from short films, to full scale productions, that introduced me to some of my most influential mentors. As the pandemic hit and the industry was a put on hold, I took time to reassess my interests, look inward and embarked on a year long hiatus from dance. Watching old film, photography and reading about the club kid subculture of New York left me with a bittersweet sensation- I wanted the city to come alive again so I could finally immerse my new self in it. May 2021 marked the beginning of my journey in the nightlife scene- I take immense pleasure in hosting drag shows, and attending every event that comes my way, from late night raves in Bushwick to glamorous parties hosted by Susanne Bartsch. Alaïa is the ever-changing manifestation of my excursions into Queer dreamworld, brought to life by music, movement, sex, fabrics, paint and lots of hairspray!

Olivia Kleven

Casey Hall-Landers

Dancer (Untitled 13: Moving. Shifting. Longing.)

To me dance is an embodiment of spirit and human qualities. Separate from our daily tasks, the body guides the mind. In my expression of movement I embody a journey of self, pushing my limits while respecting what the present moment brings. Self-nourishment, release, acceptance, love. These words are how I move, in all aspects.      Ajanay, as anyone, is a spiritual being in human form, experiencing and experimenting with every aspect of life. Her main focus in movement encourages raised awareness of herself and the collective she is apart of. She directs her life inward, to rightfully express all sides of herself. We are all more than one thing. It’s time we show ourselves to help ourselves.--

Choreographer

Da Hyun Kim is an artist constantly at work to merge different paths together. As people, we all live in our own bubble of a world, rarely touching nor seeing each other. We are too caught up with planning, surviving, and reaching for ambition and status. At one point we all have encountered the world for the first time, where we felt nothing but joy of experiencing life. Da Hyun wishes to open that state of mind for everyone that she crosses paths within her journey. Activist Amanda Nguyen said, ‘Joy is the most radical form of rebellion.’ Indeed, joy can break our cycle of isolation and foster communication. Da Hyun finds this her calling as an artist, to offer people a new lens to see one another.
